The Paso Robles High School varsity football team improved to 4-1 for the season with a 35-14 win over El Diamante from the Central Section’s West Yosemite League.
El Diamante hadn’t lost a game since Sept. 14, 2007, and is the defending Central Section champion.
The Bearcats led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and then added 14 more points in the third and seven points in the fourth.
The Bearcats limited El Diamante to seven points in the second and third quarters.
For the Bearcats, Andy Bridge led the attack rushing 24 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Matt Remington scored one touchdown off a 63-yard interception return and again off a 9-yard pass from quarterback Austin Flynn.
Flynn was 4-for-8 for 38 yards and one touchdown in the game.
The Bearcats play their first league game on Friday, Oct. 17 at home against the Lompoc Braves.
Girls Volleyball
The Templeton High School varsity girls volleyball team played at Lompoc on Thursday and won 3-2.
The Eagles won their first game, 25-19, the third game 25-21 and the fifth and final game, 15-8. Lompoc won the second game, 25-22 and the fourth game 25-23.
The Eagles are now 3-4 overall, 1-2 Los Padres League. They play at home against Morro Bay tonight starting at 6:15.
Girls Golf
The Paso Robles High School girls varsity golf team played in a PAC 7 tournament hosted by Atascadero on Thursday and took second place with a team score of 230.
Righetti finished in first place with a score of 208. Medalist for the tournament was Righetti’s Mareon Smit who shot a 37.
For the Bearcats, Claire Baldal and Salome Jansen Van Rensburg led with socres of 44 each. Ashley Levanduski and Tori Sepulveda both shot a 47 and Kim Bergin rounded out the score with a 48.
“A 230 is the best score for the year for us,” said Paso Robles coach Dewey Stroud.
The Bearcats play in a tournament hosted by Righetti on Thursday at Rancho Maria Golf Course.
