The Paso Robles High School varsity football team lost to Westlake on Friday night, 48-26.
The Warriors took an impressive 21-point lead to end the first quarter.
The Warriors added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, and the Bearcats rallied for 12 points, six off two field goals from Jacob Bedell and the rest on a touchdown, to end the first half down 35-12.
In the third quarter, Westlake outscored the Bearcats two touchdowns to one, and took a 48-19 lead. The Bearcats held Westlake in the fourth, and added one more touchdown and extra point, but it wasn’t enough.
Bearcat quarterback Thomas Bernal was 10-for-20 for 142 yards and he rushed 11 times for 57 yards. Robert Burbank was 30 for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
As a team, Westlake completed 16 first downs and rushed 29 times for 260 yards and passed for 270 yards. The Bearcats completed 21 first downs, rushed 45 times for 273 yards, and 142 yards passing. On fumbles, Westlake went 1-1, and the Bearcats were 3-2.
The Bearcats are now 0-1 for the season. They play on the road against Central High School of Fresno this Friday, Sept. 11 starting at 7:30 p.m.
