Burn-survivor steer moves to Grass Valley

PASO ROBLES ó After 16-year-old Dylan Wilkinsonís FFA steer was burned during an animal cruelty incident last fall, he has made the decision to withdraw the bovine from the Mid-State Fair.

Although Wilkinsonís steer, Panda, was an FFA project animal destined for the fair and slaughter when he raised it, it has been taken to Animal Place, an animal sanctuary in Grass Valley, where Panda will live out the rest of his days.

This change in Pandaís destination is due to the backlash that followed Wilkinsonís initial decision to keep Panda in the fair.

ďMy supporters were being threatened along with rumors of others wanting to come to my residence to steal my steer,Ē Wilkinson said in a statement he released Tuesday.
