TEMPLETON — The Templeton Area Advisory Group selected Tom Burgett and Frank Scotti to serve as replacement delegates on TAAG and voted Alice Griselle in as chairwoman and Bob Bejarano as interim secretary for the board during a special meeting Sept. 8.

The action of holding a special meeting was the direct result of the abrupt resignation of Chairman William Pelfrey, delegate Wayne Gretter and alternate delegate Jeff Debrish at the Aug. 18 meeting; followed by the resignation of secretary Chris Davis. The delegates and second alternate that remained included: Alice Griselle, Bob Bejarano, vice chair Sarah Maggelet, absent member treasurer Larry Stone and alternate Murray Powell. All were tasked with filling four seats of the 10 total, including seven delegates and two acting alternate delegate seats.

A big point of contention at the Sept. 8 meeting were the bylaws and what delegates called “vague language,” which made interpretation virtually impossible with regard to conducting an emergency election to place new members. Griselle said that\ she didn’t feel that those who drafted the bylaws ever foresaw this number of delegates resigning from TAAG and felt that they didn’t address this issue adequately.

“I feel like we are walking a tight rope without a net with regard to these bylaws and feel that those who drafted it never would have thought this number of delegates would resign at once,” Griselle said. “I feel that we have to move forward, and based on my understanding of the vague way this document reads, when we are talking about elections and voting we do seem to have the right to place delegates at our next meeting.”

TAAG delegates agreed with Griselle’s interpretation of the bylaws, though there was some public comment that was against TAAG taking action without more notification given to the community to attract more willing candidates.

Even with the outreach already put forth by TAAG, there were six community members that came to the meeting to express their interest. As public comment closed, all willing candidates were given three minutes to speak as to why they would want to serve TAAG.

Burgett expressed that he was interested in joining TAAG as a delegate, lives within the Templeton Unified School District boundaries and has been a Paso Robles planning commissioner for nearly two years.

“I feel my experience with the City of Paso Robles as a planner and my experience as the president of ADP Engineering would make me a prime candidate to sit on the TAAG body,” he said.

Scotti spoke soon after and expressed that through his work with Atascadero Solarponics he has been a party to helping people plan and prioritize spending to insure that they get something efficient without braking the bank.

“I know this community intimately and have worked on both small and major commercial projects through Solarponics and known the ins and outs of planning and buildout of this type and know I would

be an asset to TAAD as a delegate,” said Scotti, who also lives within the TUSD boundary and was eligible for a seat.

After hearing from all proposed candidates that were present, chairwoman Griselle and vice chair Maggelet put all the names in a hat and drew two from the six names. At the culmination of the meeting, both Burgett and Scotti were formally welcomed to TAAG and former second alternate Murray Powell was moved into a delegate position, with the two alternate positions remaining unfilled until TAAG deemed necessary to seek alternates or the next election takes place.

The TAAG board will hold elections for delegates in March 2017 and anyone that is a registered voter within the Templeton Unified School District Boundaries may seek further information and apply

by visiting taaginfo.org.
