RV resort coming to golf course: Planning commission approves 300-space park on 290-acre site

Posted: Friday, Mar 17th, 2017

PASO ROBLES — On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the City of Paso Robles Planning Commission unanimously voted to approve the Cabernet Links RV Resort and Golf Course project.

The site, located at 5151 Jardine Rd., has been occupied since 1994 by Links Golf Course, an 18-hole wide arena and popular local weekend crowd base.

Links Golf Course, had back in 2007, already been faced with a similar position. At the time, developers had previously proposed a project that would initiate similar land subdivision into 39 parcels. While the developers were granted approval for the project, nothing actually ever came of their efforts. Since then the golf course has remained in use.

The company currently planning to develop the project, Tom Erskine and Vino Vista LLC, plan to divide the current roughly 220-acre site into nine different individual lots. While the largest plot overall will be set aside for the actual golf course itself, a significant number will be used strictly as an RV park. Remaining acreage will later on be further divided between commercial space and planted vineyards, Erskine said.

While the developers believe the golf course and vineyards will act as an effective and efficient intermediary between neighborhoods and the RV park, several residents feel otherwise and believe it will be disruptive.

Several local residents who have spent the past few years living near Links Golf Course voiced their protests to the Planning Commission at the meeting. An overall majority of the protests were in regard to potential neighborhood inconveniences, increased traffic, lack of parking availability and concern regarding the facility’s likelihood of displaying inappropriate water usage.

Although a significant number of community members are wary of the implementation of the soon-to-be RV park, the City of Paso Robles Planning Commission went ahead and approved the proposal.
