Prospective students interested in attending United States service academies from across the North County had the chance to meet and bounce questions off Congressman Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, during a recent Academy Forum.
Last Saturday, McCarthy hosted a Service Academy Forum for the 22nd Congressional District at the Atascadero Unified School District Board Chambers.
"I encourage all students interested in serving as an officer in our Armed Forces to attend one of the Academy Nights," McCarthy said. "The Service Academy Forum provides interested students and parents an opportunity to learn about the application process, academy life and career opportunities in the military."
Academy liaison officers representing the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy provided information on what life is like on the academy, according to McCarthy's office. A representative from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy was also available at the forum to assist local students with the application process.
During the forum, students learned about the application procedure to receive a congressional nomination to one of five academies, heard briefings and viewed video presentations by McCarthy and the Service Academy Liaison officers.
