Cuesta placed on probation

Cuesta College officials announced that the university received notice from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges [ACCJC] last Wednesday that the college had been placed on probation.

While uncertain at this point whether or not the college will be able to maintain its accreditation status in the long run, school officials said that the college is and will remain an accredited institution throughout the response process.

The ACCJC placed the college on warning status in January of 2009 and recommended that the college, which has campuses in both San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, make improvements in nine key areas.

Following the "warning status" announcement, the college filed a report filed and hosted site visit last October. Based on report findings and the site visit, the ACCJC took action to place the college on probation, Cuesta College officials said.

"I want to assure our students and the community that Cuesta College remains accredited," said Dr. Gil Stork, Cuesta College interim Superintendent/President,"We take the process and outcomes of the Accrediting Commission's findings very seriously. We will focus our responses on the recommendations and take corrective actions within the established timeline.

“We will continue forward, focusing our efforts on planning for the future in a volatile economic environment. As grim as things have been this past year, I have a great deal of optimism as to

where Cuesta will be in a year from now."
