The California Office of Traffic Safety recently awarded the Paso Robles Police Department [PRPD] two grants slated to help assist in keeping drunk drivers off the road and motorists safely equipped with proper seatbelts.
The grants, awarded near the end of 2009, are expected to pay for overtime to allow officers to work directed enforcement operations within the city of Paso Robles to address impaired driving and passenger restraint violations, according to PRPD.
There are two separate grants.
The first grant is the "DUI Checkpoint Mini Grant." Grant funding is expected to pay for the operation of six DUI checkpoints in the city through 2010. According to the PRPD, the checkpoint operations coincide with major holidays or events in the city when people tend to consume more alcohol and are more likely to get behind the wheel of a car...
