Members of the city council said the following during council comments about the recent financial forecsat:
Mayor Duane Picanco:
"Just as a side note to this, in the past I've said that the city is now in the black, at least last year. But I've cautioned those residents that it's a very fragile economy that we have out there because the first thing that we're doing is when are you going to do this or that? I shared with them that because the economy is very fragile, and it's not only the local economy. Our local economy seems to be doing better than the nation or state. It's something we need to be cautiously optimistic about and watch how we budget and how we spend the money continually like we have in the past. I'm certain that this council particularly will be try frugal about how we spend our money."
City Councilman Ed Steinbeck:
"I'm very encouraged by the report. It's nice to see all of those black numbers across the bottom on those first couple of sheets. However, as we all know we can't spend frivolously, either. We're fairly close to the zero amount on the budget, but I think we need to compliment the entire city team in making those cuts over the last four years and making this happen, along with a couple of little revenue increases. Good job."For the complete article see the 03-05-2013 issue.
