SAN LUIS OBISPO — The California Collegiate League returns to action this week following a brief All-Star break that coincided with the annual All-Star Game of Major League Baseball.
The CCL hosted its All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16 at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton, one night removed from the American League’s 5-3 win over the National League in the Midsummer Classic.
Whereas the MLB All-Star Game splits the season right down the middle, the CCL All-Star Game comes well into the second half of the summer amateur baseball season.
There are roughly 12 games left for each team in the CCL season, leading up to the championship tournament that will take place in San Luis Obispo the weekend of Aug. 1.
For the SLO Blues to have a shot at more than just hosting the tourney, they’ll need to finish the 2014 season with a flurry of victories.
At press time, the Blues (30-10, 19-9 CCL) were 4.5 games behind the Santa Barbara Foresters in the CCL Central Division. For the complete article see the 07-18-2014 issue.
