Grois' grit propels Paso water polo to victory

PASO ROBLES – After a stellar performance last weekend in Newbury Park’s Mistletoe Classic water polo tournament, the Paso Robles High School varsity girls overpowered the visiting Nipomo Titans, 12-5, Tuesday afternoon behind heavy defensive action by senior goalkeeper Marti Rae Grois.

In their first game of the Mistletoe Classic, the Bearcats fell, 6-5 to Louisville before earning a 6-4 win over Chadwick on Friday.

The Bearcats came back strong Saturday to defeat San Luis Obispo, 5-1. Their second game of the day had the Paso girls facing Buena and suffering a 7-4 loss. The Bearcats rebounded in their final tournament game with a 7-6 victory over Malibu to earn an 11th place finish overall out of 25 teams.

“All of the schools we played had good, quality teams,” PRHS varsity coach Duane McRoy said.
