Flat magic art brings walls to life

NOW YOU SEE IT — Pictured, artwork by trompe l'oeil artist Stephen Price. Although at first glance, it may appear that the wine, cheese and fruit are real, this scene was created with the flick of a paintbrush. French for "deceive the eye,” Price’s techniques bring realistic imagery and forced perspective together to create an optical illusion that brings murals to life.


If the eyes are truly windows to the soul, then the tasting room is no doubt the window to the winery.

Recently relocated from Cambria to Paso Robles, trompe l'oeil artist Stephen Price aims at showing local tasting room owners — and anyone with an empty wall, for that matter — just how easy it is to create a lasting, artistic conversation-starter
