The disciples’ unbelief

The death of Jesus was a crushing blow for His disciples. Their hopes and dreams, they thought, died and were buried with the Lord. They believed they had mistakenly “hitched their wagons to a falling star.” Fearfully, they cowered in the shadows, defeated and confused. No doubt they asked themselves how they could have been so mistaken about the identity of Jesus.

The short period between the death of Jesus and His resurrection could have been a time of great anticipation for His disciples. They could have waited in hope for the promised resurrection of the Lord. Sadly this was not the case, however, because of their “unbelief.”
