Willard Wells Pangborn

Willard (Bill) Wells Pangborn was born on March 26, 1942 and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013.

Bill was born to James Raymond and Ruth (Wells) Pangborn in Primghar, Iowa. In his youth, Bill played football, basketball, ran track and was active in several 4-H projects in Primghar.

In 1960, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After completing Hospital Corp School, he was assigned to the USS Coral Sea. He served 4 years active duty and 2 years in the Navy Reserve.

In 1966, Bill accepted a Federal Civil Service position in Southern California. The position required that he be a member of the Army National Guard as well.

In 1974, he became a resident of Atascadero when he accepted a position at the Armory. Bill also worked at MATES Camp Roberts and Camp San Luis for many years.

Bill retired from the Federal Civil Service after 33 years and in 2002 from the California Army National Guard with 41 years of service.

Bill was married to Carol Wayborn in 1970 until her death in 1985. They had two children, Scott and Michelle.

In 1990, Bill married a long-time family friend, Deena Winebrener. They enjoyed the many friendships they made while working the Pangborn Tax Service together. Bill was a tax preparer for 46 years.

Bill cherished his time with family and friends and loved to share his faith with all he met. He had a passion for mentoring others in their career or personal life. Traveling was enjoyed, both throughout the USA and abroad.

Bill is survived by his wife, Deena Pangborn, brother, Wendell Pangborn, a blended family of children, Scott Pangborn, Michelle (Daniel) Collins, Robin (Jeff) Nowotny, Glen (Rebekah) Penland, and Tamara (Manuel) Oviedo, and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Collin, Kahler, Josh, Dakota, Tristan and Jeremiah.

Interment will be on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park with military honors. A Celebration of Billís life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at 1 p.m at the Atascadero First Assembly of God, 5545 Ardilla Road.
