Elda June Roof, 82, passed away on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. She was the widow of Bill Roof with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Elda was born in Johnstown, Pa., on June 1, 1931. She was the youngest of 10 children born to Henry and Florence Alt and was the sole survivor of their immediate family.
She lived in Pennsylvania for most of her life. Elda and Bill were house parents at the Milton Hershey School for Boys. In 1971, they purchased the ShawNTee campground in Elizabethtown, Pa., which they operated until 1984. They moved on to Fort Myers, Fla. to enjoy early retirement and relocated to Paso Robles in 1997.
In Paso Robles, Elda loved the opportunity to watch her grandsons grow up. She worked as a volunteer at the Salvation Army and made many new friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paso and greatly valued the fellowship she found there.
Elda’s survivors include her son, William, his wife, Ellen, two grandsons, Ryan and Joshua, all of Paso Robles, and her son, Jeffrey and his wife, Brenda, of Downingtown, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1645 Park St., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb., 1 with Pastor Mike Garman officiating.For the complete article see the 01-24-2014 issue.
