P. Ross “Buck” Buchanan passed away peacefully on Aug. 4, 2016. He was 91 years young and led a very full life. He was dearly loved by his family and is survived by his wife, children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ross was born in Cumberland, Wyo., and then at 5 moved to Huntington Park with his family. He spent time in Wyoming again as a teen then returned to California where he met Myrt, the love of his life and wife of almost 65 years. Together they raised their three daughters in Huntington Park, but Ross was always a Wyoming boy at heart.
He served 26 years with the Huntington Park Police Department until he retired in 1977 in Atascadero, where he quickly found all the best hunting and fishing locations on the Central Coast. He and Myrt are also blessed with fond memories of hunting and fishing and good friends Wyoming. They will always remember the many picnics and barbecues in “the valley.”
Ross was a “man’s man” who will be missed by many for his integrity and generosity toward family, friends and neighbors. He was always designated as the meat cutter at the neighborhood barbecues and people couldn’t get over how large his hands were. He could always be counted on to get the job done when someone needed help and he effected the lives of more people than he would ever know.
A service is tentatively planned at his Wyoming graveside for next summer and Myrt welcomes friends to stop by for a visit and share their memories of Ross. For the complete article see the 08-26-2016 issue.
