Dorothy “Dotsie” Brooks Priestley Coates was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Atascadero and fell asleep in Christ on Aug. 8, 2016, in Placerville at age 86.
Only child of Charles Elbert Brooks and Constance Mills Brooks, Dotsie’s father Charles (Elbert or “Brooksie”) was son of Myron and Virginia Brooks, original pioneers of Paso Robles who arrived in the 1870s.
Wife of 26 years to first husband Harold Alan Priestley in San Jose, Dotsie was the mother of Alan Brooks Priestley, Clinton Harold Priestley and Michael George Priestley. She was then wife of 24 years to second husband Maurice “Maurie” Coates in Paso Robles; no children.
Dotsie was preceded in death by son Michael in June 1972, first husband Harold in 2006 and second husband Maurie in 2007.
She is survived by her son Alan, son Clint and his wife Patty and their children Jonathan Michael Priestley and Julie Lynn Priestley.
Dotsie worked in San Jose as a receptionist for 30 years for Dr. A.J. Zappelli, while she and Harold raised their three boys, where Michael passed at the young age of 4 years. She eventually moved back to the Paso Robles area, where she was reunited with Maurie, a friend from high school.
A couple years after Maurie’s passing, she relocated to Placerville to be near her two boys and their families. Dotsie was a class act. Polite, comforting, caring and always had a heart to help others be the best they could be. She was always there for her boys and their family members to the very end of her life here on earth.
Dotsie’s remains were interred at Paso Robles cemetery on Aug. 16, 2016, with family and close friends present. Donations made to the Alzheimer's Foundation would be appreciated.
