John Romero, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jennie and Diego “Tony” Romero and sister Sophie Sliter.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia; daughter Jennifer Rimer (Jon); sons John Romero, Jr. (Shannon) and Michael Romero (Rebecca); sisters Rachel, Valentina and Jane; brothers David and Michael; as well as grandkids Alexandria, Jacob, Anastasia, Jonathan, Delaney, Charlotte, Thomas and William.
John served honorably in the U.S. Army and later worked in the petroleum and agricultural industries in Kern County for over 30 years. He was a very patriotic man who loved spending time with his grandkids, fishing, watching classic films, listening to Dodger baseball on the radio and playing guitar. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved his adopted home town of Paso Robles.
He was a kind and gentle man who put the needs of others before his and could always be counted on to lighten the mood with a quote from a Mel Brooks movie. He was a loving husband and an amazing Dad and Papa. His tender, reassuring voice and continued encouragement to “do what you love” will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Paso Robles at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14. Internment will be at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield the same day at 2 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
