Kay Frances Schenberger

Posted: Friday, Jan 25th, 2013

Kay Frances Schenberger passed away Jan. 18, 2013 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. She was born in October of 1939 to Woodrow and Jean Lacefield and was raised in Orange County, Calif. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School and Orange Coast College. While attending San Jose State University, she met and married her husband of nearly 53 years, Richard (Dick) Schenberger.

During the early years of their marriage she was a full time mother and housewife, supportive of and doting on their three children. As the children advanced in school, she obtained her real estate license and began a long career in sales starting in 1971.

In 1986, she and her long time friend and working associate, John White, purchased the York Real Estate office in Atascadero from retiring Sid York. She was active in sales and co-management of the office up until she became ill in 2011. She truly enjoyed her work and the interaction with clients and co-workers.

In her off hours from work, she enjoyed gardening (roses), travel and doting on her children and grandchildren. Travels with her husband or grandchildren led her throughout the US, plus Mexico, Japan, China, Australia, Brazil, England, France, Holland, Belgium, Greece and Turkey.

She was a true Lady in her actions and appearance. Her ever-present exuberance, delight, curiosity, love and cheer will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by two children, Chris Schenberger and Laurie Pudwill (Mike), four grandchildren, Carolyn, Amanda, Alisha and Ryan, her sister-in-law Jo Ann Barksdale, numerous nieces and nephews, her step-dad who she adored, Herb Hoover, and her loving husband and best friend, Dick Schenberger.

She was preceded in death by her father Woodrow, her mother Jean and her son Glen. Cremation has taken place, with her ashes scattered in the ocean that she so loved. A remembrance gathering will be held at a future date.
