Sue Ramola McMeans, 66, passed away at her home in Atascadero on Sunday, March 10, 2013 after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
Sue was born December 18, 1946, in High Point, North Carolina.
Sue was predeceased by her father James M. Roach, by her step-father Francis E. Dostie Sr. and by her mother Esther Dostie.
Sue is survived by her husband Charles A. McMeans (known as Andy), daughter Laura Vance, grand-children Billy Fair, Nichole Fair, Jaligh Patterson, and Jacob Anderson, and great-grand-daughter Lilly Layne, all of Atascadero. She is also survived by her brother, Ed Dostie, of Winchester, Oregon, sister, Jean Goodrich, of Redding, and sister, Leisa Marrs, of Atascadero.
Sue was a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with degrees in animal science and agricultural business management. She retired from San Luis Obispo County in 1996, where she had been the Chief Deputy Public Guardian/Conservator for about 20 years.
Sue loved motorcycling, counted cross-stitching, beaded jewelry making, and horses. She was an active advocate for children, especially those caught up in domestic violence or other abuse situations. Sue and her husband own an antique carousel that they often donate for use to benefit children throughout the county.
We wish to thank Hospice Partners of the Central Coast for all of their help and support during these difficult times. If you so desire, donations to them may be made in Sue’s name. No services are being held at this time. We plan to have a public celebration of Sue’s life in a few months. For the complete article see the 04-12-2013 issue.
