The sun is beginning to sink behind oak-studded Santa Margarita mountains and Shannon Stein is flushed, cheeks rosy-pink and eyes glowing with excitement. On a typical Thursday afternoon, you can find Stein behind a desk at the Pismo Beach Hilton Garden Inn. Today, she’s cleared a 1,200-foot gap between two hillsides, and four more lines are waiting.
“This could become addicting,” Stein exclaims while a guide unhooks her harnessed body from the thick cable overhead. Dubbed “The Renegade,” the line sends thrill-seekers 80 feet above pastoral grasslands at about 35 miles per hour.
