Paso Robles author Alex Demetrius knows that struggle brings both turmoil and enlightenment. His debut novel, “The Reward of Not Knowing” chronicles his rough childhood, tenuous relationship with his mentally ill mother and his search for an authentic, joyous life. Despite his troubling past, Demetrius has strived to heed Gandhi’s call to “be the change you want to see in the world.”
“The book is about the transformation of one’s own consciousness by exploring one’s own self,” said Demetrius, 39. “Now that I’ve written this book, and have seen that you can transform your old ways, I am committed to living a life that is in keeping with the lessons I’ve learned. This book is my Bible — my course guide — to committing myself to these realizations.”
Demetrius wasn’t always this “zen” about life — not by a long shot. For the complete article see the 06-13-2014 issue.
