TEMPLETON — After making the CIF playoffs for the first time since 2008, the Templeton varsity boys soccer team came up inches short in a Division 3 Wild Card match against Eastside High of Lancaster.

The Eagles and Lions met on the field at Templeton High School on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with the visitors entering the match as a No. 4 seed from the highly competitive and very deep Golden League.

Templeton battled from start to finish, taking an early lead and surviving two wild overtime sessions in a 1-1 tie before losing in penalty kicks, 3-1.

With the win, Eastside advanced into bracket play to face Hueneme, the No. 1 seed from the Pacific View League. Results were not available at press time for the CIF first round game.

For the Eagles, the season came to an abrupt close, but the program’s trajectory is clearly on the upswing as the attention shifts to the offseason.
