Cuesta basketball preps for postseason

SAN LUIS OBISPO — After finishing first in the Western State Conference North Division, the Cuesta College men’s basketball team is set to open postseason play tonight on the road at Cerritos College.

The Cougars (21-9, 10-2 WSC) finished the season with six consecutive wins, including decisions over Moorpark and College of the Canyons — the only two teams to beat Cuesta in league action.

Through 30 games, the Cougars are averaging 73.2 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field.

Sophomore guard Oscar Pedroso is the go-to scorer for Cuesta, posting 18 points per game to go with 5.2 rebounds per game.

However, despite leading the team in scoring in 17 different games, Pedroso is not the only option for the Cougars offensively.

Guard Alex Igual and forward Brett Hartshorne — both freshmen — have carried much of the load as well, scoring 13.1 and 12.6 points per game, respectively.
