Teen aims to ‘keep art of poetry alive’

PASO ROBLES — A passionate musician and serious supporter of the arts, Paso Robles High School student Alec Wingfield said he’s both similar and unique among his 16-year-old peergroup.

“I play video games and hang out with my friends. However, I think art holds a bigger role in my life than probably a lot of teenagers,” the sophomore said after his recent Poetry Out Loud win.

Wingfield is currently gearing up to represent San Luis Obispo County at the California State Poetry Out Loud competition slated for March 23 and 24 in Sacramento. Wingfield advanced after scoring high during a county competition held earlier this month.
