PASO ROBLES — John Bartlett is the new publisher of Paso Robles Press.
“It is very exciting to be a part of this community paper,” he said. “I feel very strongly that community papers have a very important role in local communities.”
Bartlett, who began his newspaper career with the Register-Pajaronian in Watsonville 16 years ago, left the paper in 2000 for a position as publisher of the Siuslaw News in Florence, Ore. Since then, he has become group publisher managing papers in Cottage Grove and Waldport, Ore., as well as managing Central Coast Publishing in Coos Bay, Ore.
Bartlett will continue to have responsibilities for papers in Oregon, in addition to California, which includes the Register-Pajaronian, Atascadero News and South County Newspapers.
While in Florence, Bartlett served as Rotary President, Chairman of the ACS Relay For Life and on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, PeaceHealth Hospital Foundation, the Friends of Florence and started the Florence Green Fair.
In 2012, he was named the Florence First Citizen award winner for community service.
Bartlett said he will build on that momentum by being active in the local community.
“My family and this newspaper intend to be very active in local events and encourage everyone to let us know how we can support what you are doing,” he said.
Bartlett’s wife, Amy Bartlett, also works for News Media Corporation. They have three children, Jenna Bartlett (who is the general manager for Siuslaw News), Michael Bartlett and Katie Bartlett Libby.
“We are going to be the best source for your community news,” Bartlett said.
