TEMPLETON — The annual Monster Skate Contest had a trick contest in Templeton Saturday, April 5. The Templeton event is just one of several held throughout San Luis Obispo County, where the participants accumulate points at each contest and award a Series Champion at the end.
According to Templeton Community Service District Recreation Supervisor Melissa Johnson, “Monster” is the brainchild of Paula Anton, recreation supervisor with the City of Atascadero.
“Eleven years ago, skateboarding was experiencing a surge in popularity and she wanted to find a way to capture all that energy,” said Johnson. “She came up with Monster along the vein of Monster Trucks and sent an invite to all county agencies with skate parks. There was a logo contest; the winning entry received a $100 prize. The first contest was held in 2003, with Templeton joining in 2004.” For the complete article see the 04-15-2014 issue.
