Andre, Morris & Buttery law firm Senior Principal Michael Morris is the featured speaker at an estate planning workshop scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 at the Edward Jones offices, located at 835-B Oak Park Blvd. in Pismo Beach.

Sponsored by Joe Brittingham, CFP(r) of Edward Jones Investments, the presentation will include a presentation by Morris titled "Estate Tax Repeal & Its Effect on Basic Estate Planning."

The no-charge event will take place from noon to 2:30 p.m. The workshop is open to the public, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Lunch will be provided by Pismo Beach-based Rosa's Italian Restaurant.

Morris has more than 35 years of experience in real estate, business counseling and estate and trust matters. He will discuss the repeal of the federal estate tax and generation-skipping transfer tax, which occurred on Jan. 1, 2010, according to organizers.

"By failing to extend the estate tax law, Congress has created uncertainty both now and in the future," a press release for the event stated. "Under current law, while the estate tax is eliminated in calendar year 2010, it returns on Jan. 1, 2011 with a drastically reduced federal exemption of only $1 million and an increased tax rate of 55 percent.

"While many believe that Congress will retroactively attempt to reinstate the tax and provide reasonable rules for 2011 and beyond, there is no guarantee of how or when this may occur."

Morris went on to state in the release that "Understanding the impact of all this on your existing estate plan is essential."

According to organizers, the seminar will help attendees understand the current status of the estate tax law as well as plan for the potential changes that may occur in the future.
