SAN LUIS OBISPO – A total of Cuesta College cagers will be moving on to play basketball at the four-year level in 2012-13.

The men’s program, which has placed more than 85% of its sophomores at the four-year level in Coach Rusty Blair’s tenure, moved seven players to the next level, while Coach Ron Barba reported that his two-time MVP Kati Sheldon, a Paso Robles High School graduate, has accepted a scholarship to continue her career.

Two-time All Western State Conference First Team Forward and Cuesta Team MVP Kati Sheldon has signed a scholarship to play at Pacific University in Oregon. Sheldon was one of four players and the only freshman on the team when Coach Ron Barba was hired to take over the program for the retiring Ed Musolff.

Sheldon is regarded as Barba’s first player and she has helped him re-establish the Cougars as a solid program. She ended her career as the school career scoring average leader and also ranks second all time in field goal percentage at 47. 8 and third in rebounds per game at 9.9.

2012 All State players Malte Kramer and Calen Coleman highlight men’s basketball’s graduating class.  Both players will move to the NCAA Division I level and are expected to make an impact against the best collegiate players in the nation.

Kramer, the 2012 Cuesta Athlete of the Year, accepted a scholarship to Pepperdine University.  He averaged 17.9 points per game during his Cuesta College career and set a school record by netting 41.9% of his career three-point attempts.

Coleman, who joined Kramer on the 2012 All State First Team and the 2012 All-WSC First Team, played his freshman season at Bakersfield College and used his redshirt year in 2011 after transferring to Cuesta. He became a star this year and averaged 16.1 points per game and led the team in steals. Coleman has accepted a scholarship to Montana State, following in the footsteps of former Cuesta All State Guard Mecklen Davis, a Atascadero High School graduate.

Point Guard Denis-Dobkowski-Rylko has accepted a scholarship at the NCAA Division II level. He will play at South Dakota College of Mines in 2012-13. ‘Rylko’ was a part-time started for two years at Cuesta and was known for his floor vision, ball-handling and quickness on both ends of the court. He averaged only 1.4 points per game, but was third on the team with 1.7 assists per game and had the second-most steals per minute on the team. The Cougars are also sending for players to Kansas to compete at the NAIA level. Forwards Nick Sauer and Marc Hopkinson signed scholarships to play at Tabor College, while Guards Luis Marrero and Barry Garfinkel earned scholarships to Bethany College.
