ATASCADERO – Hundreds of fans from Paso Robles and Atascadero filled the football stadium at Atascadero High School Friday night as the Bearcats claimed a 16-14 victory in an action-packed thriller that came down to a missed field goal attempt by the Greyhounds in the final two seconds of the game.
“For two weeks in a row, our defense really stepped up,” Bearcats’ head varsity coach Rich Schimke said. “I thought the defense played a great game and kept us in it long enough for us to hang on.”
From the moment the Bearcats won the coin toss to the final play of the night, the Paso Robles and Atascadero players delivered a fan-pleasing performance in the 92nd year of the two teams’ cross-town rivalry outing.
