Unlikely Paso Robles duet finds Hollywood home

Modified: Friday, Nov 9th, 2012

SHAUFRAU — Khristain Singleton plays guitar while Heather Weller adds deep, sultry vocals. The Paso Robles musicians have recently found a niche on the Sunset strip with their band Shaufrau.

Heather Weller was elbow deep in soapy sink water when she heard music swelling from the other room. Her fiancé, Khristain Singleton, was working out a song on his acoustic guitar. Singleton had just starting messing around with the acoustic (he had always played electric in the past), and Weller hadn’t sung since her days in choir as a youth. But at that moment, inexperience didn’t seem to matter. A band was formed right then and there.

“I didn’t even know she was in the house. I had just written my first song on acoustic guitar and I was overanalyzing it,” Singleton said. “I’ll never forget her walking around the corner with her hands in the air and soapy water dripping off of her. She said, ‘Just play and I’ll sing.’”

Singleton handed over the lyrics sheet, and the result gave him goosebumps.
