PASO ROBLES — More local “littles” will be paired with their perfect “bigs” as Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County join with agencies across California to celebrate January’s National Mentor Month.

This month, the nonprofit focuses on signing up male big brothers as part of the statewide "Man Up Campaign," aimed at encouraging men to strengthen their communities by providing boys with long-term, quality role models.

"Countywide, 56 percent of our clients are boys, ready to experience the friendship of a male mentor, while only 41 percent of our volunteers are men,” said Sarah Rudd, program director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO. “We are hopeful that this campaign will help close the gap through donor and male volunteer recruitment efforts."
