The Paso Robles Press recently had the chance to catch up with Congresswoman Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, during her tour of the North County. Here's what she had to say:

Paso Robles Press: First things first can you tell us a little bit about the purpose of your tour here on the Central Coast and Paso Robles in general?

CAPPS: This last election signaled a change in the Congressional District boundary line, as it is with many other elected officials, because of the census and the re-drawing of all of the boundaries. The new district that I was elected to represent, the 24th, includes all of Santa Barbara County and all of San Luis Obispo County.

When I was first elected, it was similar to this. For the past decade, I have represented only the coastal portions of these two counties, so this is my first opportunity to be in the new congress and visit some of the new portions of the district (last) week. That included coming to San Luis Obispo County. Instead of limiting my time just to certain portions I have seen in the past, I wanted to get out and meet new constituents. Today (Friday) I spent in Atascadero and Paso Robles, and it was a pleasure to be here for most of the day. We just left Twin Cities Community Hospital, and we spent this morning paying respect to the local officials and some of our local leadership, city manager and so forth.

That was our introduction to being in the community. Then we went to spend some time with the chamber of commerce, their board of directors. There was a dozen or 15 of them that gathered together, so I've had a good not in-depth yet initial visit into the community.
