Carmelita Roberta Headland, 86, a California native, of Paso Robles, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Templeton.
She was born in Oakland, California and raised by her adoptive parents in Hollywood.
She earned her college degree in Arizona and worked as a librarian for the City of San Diego. A passion for the desert, much of her free time was spent among friends trekking the rugged back country in her beloved Willys Jeep.
She married James Headland, became a homemaker and together raised their two children in San Diego and Julian. She was a great cook and loved to garden.
Carmelita had a witty sense of humor, loved movies and television, and was an avid reader on many subjects and genres. Also very competitive, she rarely missed the weekly Yahtzee and Chickenfoot tournaments at the apartments where she lived, and coveted winning the Chicken trophy.
Carmelita is survived by her former husband James Headland of Chula Vista, children, Janet Headland of Palm Springs, and Stephen Headland (Nancy) of Paso Robles, and grandchildren, Thomas and Daniel Headland and Myra French.
She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her friends at Los Robles Terrace Apartments and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to Heifer International.
